6.3 Agreement between a pronoun and its antecedent

* * *

The noun a pronoun substitutes for is called its antecedent. Because the pronoun is used in place of the noun, the pronoun should agree in number and gender with its antecedent. A pronoun and its antecedent agree in number when both are singular or both are plural. The pronouns “he,” “his,” “she,” “her,” “it,” and “its” must also agree in gender (masculine, feminine, or neutral) with their antecedents.

In legal writing, the most common errors in pronoun agreement occur when a pronoun is substituted for a collective noun or for an indefinite pronoun. See Section 3.7.

From time to time during the term of this Agreement, Buyer may submit their Purchase Order for a specified quantity of one or more Products. (Pronoun should be its.)
